Sugar More Harmful Than Marijuana Says Americans In New Survey

Americans now believe marijuana is not as harmful as it is said to be. In a poll most of the adults said sugar is even more harmful.
The survey questioned 1,000 adult Americans on several topics ranging from religion to politics and to health. In one question they were asked which is more harmful to the overall health of a person. The choice was to decide among marijuana, alcohol, tobacco and sugar.
The answer to it was surprising in most of the cases. Sugar ranked as more harmful than marijuana, but less harmful than tobacco and alcohol.
More than 40 percent people said tobacco is very harmful to the overall health of a person. Alcohol ranked second with more than 20 percent votes.
Earlier this year doctors called sweet carb as ‘new tobacco.’ The result of the survey is just latest evidence that sugar is blamed for public health epidemic of obesity.
Even food giant have been urged to cut down the amount of sugar used in its products. Academics and doctors say it must be reduced by up to 30 percent to pause diseases and deaths.
Researchers say even zero-fat yoghurts is equipped with five teaspoons of sugar and a can of tomato soup contain four teaspoons of it. In small Starbucks caramel Frappuccino with whipped cream the sugar content is about 11 teaspoons.
However, marijuana is harmful too as it leads to early onset psychosis, but there has been no documented death so far due to its overdose. Also, pot has medicinal applications too.
